The Medical Assistant/Front Desk Receptionist will be assigned to provide coverage for different departments in the facility.
Responsibilities include and are not limited to:
Greeting and interacting with patients in a courteous, professional and welcoming manner
Coordinates all clerical aspects of patient flow for clinic day
Responsible for managing a smooth clinic flow by assessing and anticipating MD schedule, ensuring any patient results or chart documents are available and assigning clinic space effectively
Scrutinizes all medical forms for accuracy and resolve issues during session
Ensures that the examination/consultation/treatment rooms are clean and stocked with requisitions, forms, and medical supplies
Autoclave and create instrument packets
Interviews patient, measures vital signs, height and weight, and records information
Completes medication reconciliation and/or test requisitions
Performs EKGs, phlebotomy, urinalysis, and assist physicians in biopsies and minor procedures such as suture removal, staple removal, and wound care, etc. as needed (training provided, competency monitored)
Collects, labels, and sends all specimens to proper areas of the hospital
Covers main reception desk including greeting and directing patients
Check patients using, accurately collecting, updating and verifying patient demographic and insurance information in IDX and/or patient’s chart
Collecting referrals (as needed) and ensuring accuracy of information on referral forms
Performing insurance eligibility and verification as needed
Collection of copayments/fees and posting of payments
Collection and recording Pharmacy information
Creating and sending Patient Portal invitations
Obtaining insurance pre-authorizations for treatments and diagnostic procedures as needed
Schedules follow up appointments , provides patient with appointment card and all necessary instructions to ensure a smooth follow up visit
Scheduling follow up appointments with providers and other departments/facilities to help coordinate follow up care and diagnostic testing, providing patient with appointment card and all necessary instructions to ensure a smooth follow up visit
Exercising skill in prioritizing assignments in order to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload, assignments, and pressures of deadlines, competitive requirements and/or a heavy workload
Interacting and communicating with team members and providers to ensure a smooth and timely flow of patients
Checking messages and following up with patients (including reminder phone calls) in a timely manner
Maintenance of a cooperative and professional relationship with providers, patients, other departmental staff and coworkers
Facilitating physician and patient administrative needs.
Is knowledgeable and familiar with fire/safety procedures and security protocol.
Completes other duties and special projects as assigned.
Conforms to all applicable HIPPA, billing compliance and safety guidelines
Ability to work flexible hours/days as well as rotating Saturdays.
High School graduate or GED equivalent
Credentialed and registered/ medical assistant, (CMA/RMA) required
1-3 years of experience in an outpatient medical office environment
Knowledge of IDX preferred
Possess knowledge of modern medical office equipment, systems and procedures
Ability to work independently and takes initiative to improve overall office operations
Excellent communication/customer service
Ability to adjust daily to different services and medical staff needs, process, and clinic flow
Knowledge of Spanish a plus
Shift: Monday – Friday 9A-5
